THE INFORMATION ON THIS HOME PAGE WAS UPDATED JANUARY 15, 2010, but property tax information is current as of the date shown on the "Tax List" page above the "Back" button, and now includes all late-payment penalties for the installment that was due November 10, 2009. To search for property tax information, click the "Property Tax and Payment Info" choice to the left. For help in searching, or for more information regarding how penalties are calculated, please see the "Help/FAQ" section to the left.
PROPERTY TAX STATEMENTS. 2008 payable 2009 property tax statements were mailed by May 22, 2009 with a Spring installment due date of June 19, 2009 and a Fall installment due date of November 10, 2009. For 2009 payable 2010, we are on schedule for normal May 10 and November 10 due dates, assuming that the Indiana General Assembly does not disrupt that schedule by passing new property tax legislation that would become effective this Spring. Such has been the case in recent years, and the result has been statewide delays due to the length of time that it takes software suppliers to rewrite the procedures for our computers.
TO GET A PROPERTY TAX PAYMENT RECEIPT, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope, along with the middle portion of the payment coupon sheet (which says "TAXPAYER'S COPY" on the reverse). That middle portion, which constitutes the official receipt for both installments, will be returned to you in that envelope.
EVERY HOOSIER MUST BE COUNTED. The 2010 U.S. Census means business – dollars to our community from the state and federal government; representation in Congress and the Indiana General Assembly; and ensuring economic developers and others know just what our community is like. I need you to help accomplish our mission of ensuring every Hoosier is counted! Participation in the U.S. Census is required by law. The information provided to the Census is absolutely confidential.
The Census counts all people living in the United States – whether citizen or non-citizen, legal or undocumented, homeless or housed. The U.S. Census happens once every 10 years and is required by the U.S. Constitution. It is important that every Hoosier household complete the Census form. The information collected from the Census is used to assist government leaders in making major decisions, such as the apportionment of seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and Indiana General Assembly; and to help distribute $300-$400 billion in federal funds back to state and local governments each year.
The U.S. Census forms will be mailed in February - March 2010 and must be completed and returned by Census Day - April 1, 2010. From May to July 2010, Census workers will follow up with visits to every address from which they received no response by Census Day. In December 2010, the Census Bureau delivers population counts to the President of the United States for apportionment.
